Green Cities in China

  • Emiel Mulder (Master of Arts)
  • Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland

China is rapidly urbanizing, by 2030 estimations are that there will be more than 1 billion urban consumers. This rapid urbanization has consequences for ensuring food security and safety in these cities and creates challenges to secure healthy living conditions and water management. Feeding megacities require novel farming concepts. Access to and availability of fresh and safe food becomes more important. Together with the Netherlands Embassy in Beijing RVO set up an assignment to do research on the concept ‘Green Cities in China’ in order to find the challenges and opportunities arising in China’s Cities.
